Our Favourite Autumn Dishes
Must-Have Autumn Dishes from Our Kitchen
Autumn is one of our favourite times in the kitchen. The markets and our garden are full of beautiful seasonal produce; crisp apples, earthy squash, and rich root vegetables and Ian, our chef, loves turning them into hearty dishes that are packed full of flavour and bring people together.
Every meal we prepare is about balance: comfort, freshness, and flavour in every bite. Whether you’re ordering one of our pies, soups or ready-made meals, visiting us at the restaurant, or enjoying our food at a local market, these are the dishes that capture everything we love about this time of year.
Here are four must-haves for the season ahead.
Butternut Squash Soup
Smooth, rich, and naturally sweet our butternut squash soup is a true autumn favourite. We roast the squash to bring out its full flavour, blend it until it’s velvety, and add just the right amount of spice for warmth. If you're not vegetarian, try adding a sprinkle crispy crumbled chorizo to the top as you serve.
Perfect with a slice of crusty bread for lunch or as a light starter before dinner. Comfort in a bowl. We love it so much it’s on the menu this week!
Steak & Ale Pie
There’s something deeply satisfying about a proper pie, and ours ticks every box. Slow-cooked beef in a rich ale gravy, using the best of both local beef and local ale. It’s then topped with buttery pastry that flakes perfectly with every bite.

It’s hearty, traditional, and made exactly the way it should be just like the ones you remember from home. Add creamy mash or seasonal greens, and you’ve got the perfect autumn supper. It’s by far our most requested pie.
Cider-Braised Pork Shoulder with Mash
A real showstopper for this time of year. We take tender pork shoulder and slow-braise it in cider until it falls apart with a fork. The cider adds a gentle sweetness that pairs beautifully with the richness of the meat.
Served with a tangy whole-grain mustard mash and seasonal veg, it’s comfort food at its best full of depth, warmth, and balance.
Apple Crumble
No autumn menu is complete without it. Our apple crumble is made with seasonal apples which, while they last, are coming directly from our garden. Lightly spiced and topped with a golden,

buttery crumble that’s impossible to resist. We like to change it up from time to time by adding oats or walnuts into the crumble mix to give it a little extra crunch.
Serve it warm with custard or vanilla ice cream however our favourite is Longridge Ice Cream's Salt Caramel. It will be featuring on our Sunday Roast menu very soon.
Bringing Autumn to Your Table
Each of these dishes has been created in our kitchen with care, using seasonal ingredients and plenty of heart. Whether you’re joining us at one of our events or stocking your freezer with our ready-made meals, this is the time to enjoy proper comfort food made fresh, full of flavour, and ready to share.
